2017 was filled with incredible miracle stories with Marian apparition news and sainthood miracles dominating the list. The Catholic Church celebrated the 100th Anniversary of the most famous apparitions in history at Fatima and the popular alleged apparition site of Medjugorje moved ever closer to receiving a decision from the Pope. Other ongoing apparitions with some approval of previous local bishops - namely at San Nicolas and Itapiranga - have been slowed by successor bishops and new apparitions now in India are being claimed. These were the top miracle stories of the year.

The Vatican’s saint-making office has updated its rules governing the use of relics for would-be saints, issuing detailed new guidelines Saturday that govern how body parts and cremated remains are to be obtained, transferred and protected for eventual veneration. The instructions explicitly rule out selling the hair strands, hands, teeth and other body parts of saints that often fetch high prices in online auctions. They also prohibit the use of relics in sacrilegious rituals and warn that the church may have to obtain consent from surviving family members before unearthing the remains of candidates for sainthood.

The author of more than 150 books, he wrote six volumes on Our Lady of Lourdes alone, perhaps the world’s best known account of a Virgin Mary apparition.

2B. Ruini Commission results leaked - positive on Medjugorje for first 7 apparitions

If the Catholic Church recognizes as “worthy of belief” only the initial alleged apparitions of Mary at Medjugorje, it would be the first time the church distinguished between phases of a single event, but it also would acknowledge that human beings and a host of complicating factors are involved, said a theological expert in Mariology.

Servite Father Salvatore Perrella, president of the Pontifical Institute Marianum and a member of the commission now-retired Pope Benedict XVI established to study the Medjugorje case, said that although Pope Francis has not yet made a formal pronouncement on the presumed apparitions, “he thought it was a good idea to clear some of the fog.”
